June 18, 2021 - California lifted most COVID-19 restrictions on June 15, but a sign encourages people to "adhere to the following rules to help prevent the spread of COVID-19."
On May 13, 2020 a Los Angeles County Health Officer Order finally reopened beaches.
April 20, 2020 -  L.A. County issued a Health Officer Order on March 27 closing beaches due to the pandemic.

Two agencies monitor water quality off the coast, mainly focusing on bacteria levels: County of Los Angeles Public Health Recreational Waters Program and City of Los Angeles Environmental Monitoring Division.  For the County "the Recreational Waters Program routinely collects ocean water samples every Monday at 40 sampling sites extending from the Ventura/Los Angeles County border to south of the Redondo Beach pier."  Advisories   See also: Heal the Bay Beach Report Card  |  Photo of Temescal Canyon drain notices.
