Mining was responsible for much of the early development in Death Valley.
The beehive kilns at Wildrose Canyon in the Panamint Range were constructed in the 1870s to provide charcoal for smelting at lead and silver mines some 25 miles away, but were only used for a few years.

Harmony Borax Works near Furnace Creek, operated for five years in the 1880s.

The pipeline ran from the Panamint Range to the milling plant at Skidoo Mine, a gold mine which operated from 1906-1917.

The Cashier Mill at the Eureka Mine, a shack at Aguereberry Camp, and remains of a car nearby.  Pete Aguereberry worked the area for forty years through to 1945.
