[Visit August 2-8, 2009]  Leekes Beach -- a good place to run.

Habitation  |  Beaches  |  Ecosystems  |  Reef  |  More

Map and aerial photo of Great Keppel Island from the Internet.  Great Keppel is a continental island (it was originally part of the mainland) about 15 km from shore and 1,454 hectares in size.  The aerial photo shows Putney Beach, the Spit, and Fisherman's Beach most prominently.  The ferry pulls up on Fisherman's Beach and most of the accomodations are in that area.  At the bottom of the photo, the two dark patches are fringing reef off Shelving Beach (there is more fringing reef off Monkey Beach but the photo is cut off).  Continuing around, Long Beach (lower right) is more exposed.  North of Long Beach is Mount Wyndham.  Further around are Coconut Point and the far side of the island up to the Big Peninsula (a bit cut off).  The long curved beach a the top of the photo is Leeke's Beach.
