The Hoskyns Islands are about 32 nautical miles (60 km) from the 1770 marina.  It takes about two hours to get out there; then suddenly, there, in the middle of the ocean, they are.  Under the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority's extensive zoning system, the Hoskyns Islands are in a green zone (marine national park), meaning no fishing is allowed there, but boating and diving are okay as are tourism activities with a permit.  Also, to protect the turtles, one cannot go on the islands.  By contrast, Lady Musgrave Island is in a dark blue zone (habitat protection), and one can go on the island and even camp there.  About a third of the Great Barrier Reef is green zoned.  (Other zones include preservation, scientific, conservation park, and general use).
