[Visit August 17-22, 2009]  Home Beach.

North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) or Straddie is a 27,530-hectare sand island in Moreton Bay.  The Redland City Council map shows the ferry route from Cleveland to Dunwich (the dotted lines below Peel Island).  In addition to the town at Dunwich and habitation at Amity on the northwest corner, much of the habitation is in the Point Lookout area on the northeast corner (I stayed at the Manta Lodge there).  About 3,200 people live on the island, but during the summer and holidays the number of people swells into tens of thousands.  The beige areas are sand mining.  Main Beach runs down the northeast side of the Island.  On the southeast edge is the Eighteen Mile Swamp.
