From the 1770 marina one can take a number of tours out to the islands and reefs of the Capricorn-Bunker Group, which is the southermmost part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. The most well-known of these islands is Lady Musgrave Island. Lady Musgrave has a huge lagoon, eight kilometers in circumference, but the boats out seemed a little too touristy. Another boat, to Fairfax Island, was not going out this particular day. | |
I went out on the 1770 Undersea Adventures boat Narcosis, to the Hoskyns Islands (there are two, East and West). The Narcosis is a no-frills 14.8 meter (48 foot) West Coast cray boat outfitted as a dive boat. On board, in addition to the captain, two dive helpers, and a general assistant, were about 18 people, half divers and half snorkelers. |
