December 2007

Dear Ron and Hazel,

Here are, still at 767. Its a very nice place to be—a mile up a canyon from the Pacific Ocean. Our card this year is of our Back yard (a portion if it) during early march.  Right now it is covered with ginkgo leaves from our huge tree.  There is a golden blanket everywhere.

It is appropriate that we chose this picture since we have become very much home-bodies this year.  We had a nice couple of days at Yosemite with our UC hiking club friends and a couple of days at Joshua trees (desert) earlier this year.  We don't get out much.  Michael has early stage Alsheimers, which makes familiarity a choice.  Otherwise we are fine and the kids are too.

Best wishes from the Applemans

Dear Don and Susana,

We hope you will enjoy this picture of our backyard, which we have chosen for this year's holiday card.  The area shown is now covered with a golden blanket of ginkgo leaves from the tree we planted 40 years ago.  Under and around the leaves there are little green bulb sprouts trying to do their own thing.  If all goes well, we will get the leaves all picked up by next week.  Hopefully the area will begin to look like our photo, taken in early March of 2007.  We have all ready enjoyed flowers of some South African moraeas and watsonias.  The display will continue until July, when California native bulbs will finish blooming.  Afterwards we will have our granite rocks to enjoy.  The remind us of the Sierras.

In  April we spent several days camping and hiking at Anza Borrego State Park.  Later, in September, we met for a Reunion at Yosemite with our friends from the 1950's University of California Hiking Club.  There seems to be plenty of things to do to keep us busy and trying to catch up.  We always enjoy visits from our friends and family.  Come and visit us!

Wishing everyone a peaceful and happy 2008,

Michael and Irma
