December 1991 Dear Ron & Hazel,       Here we are at the Christmas season once again.  Hope yours is Merry!      Our card this year is a picture of Marie Lake and the 7 Gables in California's Sierra Nevada Mountains.  We took a 9 day backpack trip there this last August.  Scenes like this make one forget the heavy pack and other discomforts of the trail.  We had a wonderful time.        At home we've spent a lot of time relandscaping our yard.  We tore out the lawns and put in Aloes, Cactus, agaves, and California natives wich take a lot less water--we are in the 5th or so year of a drought and have to use less.        At work we're still at USC working away—M. Michael is involved with the Biology Department's instructional program—He doesn't do research anymore.  Hope you are all fine.  Our Best for 1992       The Applemans _________________ 14 December 91 Dear Mom      Merry Christmas—Happy New Year. As usual I am caught at the last minute writing cards—This is my excuse for not writing this last week and for doing likewize next week. I finnally got my last overseas card out yesterday. Sigh!      We haven't been doing much besides working since Thanksgiving. We try to get 1/2 day's walk in each weekend. Walked in Santa Monica last sunday p.m. (lots of homeless people in the park about the sea). Have had some rain recently but not nearly enough to get things well watered. Our ginkgo tree is yellow and has dropped about 70% of its leaves. By next weekend it should be barren.      Alex will be home thursday Miguel on friday and Eric on Christmas day. We will be at Anza Borego–Borrego Palm camp ground the nites of Dec 21, 22 & 23–Home late on 24th. Plan to hike the local hills and maybe go to the Regan Museum between Christmas and ~29th. The kids plan to do their own thing in northern CA during new years week.  Have a peaceful Christmas.  Love from  Michael & Irma
